How to publish messages past Discord's limit of 10 per hour

Can a Discord channel publish more than 10 messages an hour?

Not at once. Discord lets each announcement channel publish 10 messages per hour, and pressing Publish past that shows an error instead of sending the message to the servers that follow the channel (Discord: Announcement Channel FAQ).

Bots get the same limit. A bot publishes through Discord's API, where publishing is called a crosspost, and no bot can raise it. What a bot can do is keep the messages past the limit and publish them once it resets, so a busy hour doesn't leave followers with gaps.

How do I publish messages past the limit?

Auto Publisher (auto-publisher.gg) can hold the messages past the limit and publish them once it resets. It comes with Premium and takes two steps:

  1. Add Auto Publisher to your server and enable the channel, as described in How to auto-publish announcement channel messages.

  2. Get Premium for that server.

That's all. From then on, a message posted past the limit waits instead of staying unpublished. When Discord's limit resets, Auto Publisher publishes the waiting messages one at a time, oldest first, so followers get them in the order you posted them. If more than 10 are waiting, the rest go out after the next reset.

A message still waiting 24 hours after it was posted is not published, and nothing past the limit is guaranteed to go out, because Discord decides when the channel may publish again. If you delete a waiting message, it is not published later.

What happens without Premium?

On the Free plan, the 11th message in an hour and every one after it stay in your server, unpublished. Without a bot, the same messages wait until someone presses Publish on each of them after the limit resets.

When does the limit reset?

Discord doesn't publish a fixed reset time. When a channel reaches the limit, Discord tells the bot how long to wait before that channel can publish again, and Auto Publisher waits exactly that long. Other channels keep publishing in the meantime.

The limit is counted per channel, not per server: two announcement channels can publish 10 messages each in the same hour. Only published messages count. A message posted but never published uses none of it.

How do I use less of the limit?

  • Publish only what followers need. Premium filters let a channel publish only the messages you choose, so feed posts or chat never use up the limit. See How to auto-publish only some messages.
  • Split the channel. Each announcement channel has its own limit, so a busy feed can move to a channel of its own. Following servers then have to follow the new channel as well.
