How to auto-publish announcement channel messages in Discord

Why aren't my announcements published on their own?

A message posted in an announcement channel stays in your server until someone presses Publish (Discord's API calls this a crosspost). Only then does Discord send it to the servers that follow the channel, where it appears as a regular message (Discord: Announcement Channel FAQ).

That is easy to forget when a person posts, and impossible to keep up with when a bot does. Auto Publisher (auto-publisher.gg) presses Publish for you on every message posted in the announcement channels you enable, including those from other bots, webhooks and RSS and news feeds.

How do I set up auto-publishing?

  1. Invite Auto Publisher to your server. You need the Manage Server permission there to add a bot.

  2. Enable the channel. In Discord, run /ap enable and pick the announcement channel. Or sign in to the dashboard, choose your server, open Channels and switch the channel on.

  3. Give the bot three permissions in that channel:

    1. 1

      Open your Discord server

    2. 2

Select the channel → Edit Channel

    3. 3

      Open Permissions tab

    4. 4

Add Auto Publisher role and grant all three permissions:

      View ChannelSend MessagesManage Messages
    5. 5

Save. Publishing starts on the next message

  4. Check it. Run /ap overview to see the publishing status of every channel in your server. The dashboard shows the same, and points out any channel that is missing a permission.

Enable only the channels you want published. A channel you never enable is left alone.

Which messages does it publish?

Every message posted in an enabled channel: yours, your moderators', and those from other bots and webhooks. Auto Publisher never writes messages of its own, it only publishes the ones already there. It skips system messages and messages that are already published.

With Premium, filters let a channel publish only the messages you choose: by text, author, mention or webhook. Text filters also read embeds, so feed posts can be filtered too.

A message with a link that has no preview yet is held 5 seconds so followers get the preview. Discord builds a link's preview after the message is posted, and a message published before then reaches the following servers without it.

Is Auto Publisher free?

Yes. Auto Publisher is free for up to 5 announcement channels per server. Premium adds unlimited channels, filters, and publishing past Discord's hourly limit.

What happens past Discord's limit of 10 messages per hour?

Discord limits each channel to 10 published messages per hour. Messages beyond that limit can't be published. Premium publishes them automatically once the limit resets, in the order they were posted, for up to 24 hours.

Why is there no Publish button in my channel?

Only announcement channels have one, and Discord offers announcement channels only to servers with Community turned on. To turn an existing text channel into one, open Edit Channel, switch on Announcement Channel and press Save Changes. Auto Publisher can then be enabled in it like any other announcement channel. Discord crossposting explained covers turning on Community and creating a new announcement channel.
